A Puppet Performance Concludes the Author’s Study

Every year our young readers engage with the works of a selected author of children’s books. The first author’s study of this year was Eric Carle.

Our readers learned Carle’s paper texturing technique and co-authored their own book inspired by the works we read. They also compared and contrasted several books, trying to notice similarities that are Carle’s style of writing.

We concluded the month-long literacy project by taking a field trip to the puppet theater for the VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR production.

The performance was welcomed with a lot of enthusiasm from our learners. The children were so inspired by what they saw that they immediately wanted to create their own performance.

After a few sessions of brainstorming and planning, we set out to make the props and and stage. Through a group vote, THE VERY LONELY FIREFLY surfaced as the most beloved book we read. The children decided to stage it

The process of making our own props and learning the roles was very engaging and the children were very proud to have created their own production. Our first Author’s study of the year turned out memorable and enriching.
